Magic Weapon System VRChat Review: Customizable Weapon Prefab for Avatars

Adding an interactive weapon to a VRChat avatar can involve far more than attaching a sword or axe model. Gestures, animations, particle effects, hand switching, physics, menus, and avatar parameters all need to work together. Magic Weapon System (VRCHAT) by Liindy with Nebula Animations offers a ready-made system designed to give melee weapons a more dynamic, magical feel while still allowing creators to customize the weapon model.

Magic Weapon System is a VRChat avatar prefab built around interactive melee weapons. The package includes a Magic Sword and Space Axe, but one of its main advantages is the ability to replace these with another compatible 3D weapon model you own. A guide is included to explain installation and weapon swapping.

Installation can be handled manually or through VRCFury, with VRChat Creator Companion and a newer VRC SDK required for the setup.

Dual Wielding and Hand Controls

The system supports both left- and right-hand use as well as dual wielding with main-hand and offhand weapons. Weapons can move between hands and equip locations using gestures, creating a more interactive alternative to simply toggling a weapon on and off.

Four visual teleport effects are available: Key Light, Fire, Lightning, and Nier Sparks, with hue and saturation controls for additional customization.

Magic Weapon System includes several gesture-driven actions. Users can experiment with reverse grip, spinning, short tosses, boomerang-style movement, teleport tosses, world dropping, and cosmetic floating animations.

A particularly distinctive feature is Kinesis, which lets weapons float in front of the user's hands using animations and PhysBones. Weapons can also float behind the avatar and follow its movement. Swing trails, sounds, and compatible parry effects add further visual interaction.

Creators who want additional interaction can enable physics-based throwing. The standard partial setup uses 21 parameters, while enabling physics throwing increases the total to 49 parameters. This gives avatar creators a choice between conserving parameters and enabling the more advanced throwing functionality.

Who Is This For?

Magic Weapon System may suit VRChat avatar creators, Unity users, roleplayers, and players who want customizable fantasy or sci-fi melee interactions. It is particularly useful for creators who already own weapon models and want to integrate them into a more feature-rich system.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Supports custom 3D weapon models

  • Dual-wielding and both-hand controls

  • Multiple particle and gesture effects

  • Includes Magic Sword and Space Axe

  • Optional physics throwing

  • Manual and VRCFury installation options

Cons

  • Currently not Quest compatible

  • Physics throwing requires additional avatar parameters

  • Setup still requires familiarity with the VRChat/Unity avatar workflow

Conclusion

Magic Weapon System for VRChat combines weapon customization, gestures, dual wielding, visual effects, floating animations, and optional physics into one adaptable prefab. Its ability to work with different weapon models makes it especially appealing for avatar creators who want more flexibility than a fixed weapon asset.
